Obituary for Liam E. Smith

Liam E. Smith, 41, an area resident since 1977 and formerly of the Bronx, died on Friday, November 22, 2013.

Born in the Bronx on April 13, 1972, he was the son of Mary O’Sullivan Smith of Wappingers Falls and Richard G. Smith who predeceased him on September 4, 1996. He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1990 and attended Dutchess Community College. Liam was employed as a Corrections Sergeant with the New York State Department of Corrections at Green Haven Correctional Facility.

In addition to his mother, Liam is survived by his brother, Rev. Richard Smith, Pastor of St. Joachim-St. John Church, Beacon; his sister, Erin Smith Lakatosh of Wappingers Falls; and his nephews, James and Ryan Lakatosh whom he loved like his own sons. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Mortimer Sullivan, Kathleen Powers, Patrick and Mary Sullivan, Sheila Sullivan, Ann and Jim Nolan, Peggy Sullivan, Matthew Smith, Catherine and George Partridge, and Patricia O'Sullivan; and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his uncles, John Sullivan, Eugene Smith, and Patrick Powers; and his aunt, Kathy Smith.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
