Obituary for Ida A. Shortal (Finney)

DOVER PLAINS – Ida A. Shortal, a lifelong local area resident, died on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing. She was 66.
Ida was born in Carmel on June 13, 1951, one of ten children. On March 20, 1971, she married Timothy W. Shortal in Croton Falls. Ida was a homemaker for many years while raising her children. In the mid-1990s, she began working as a Home Health Care Aide, and continued to do so until her husband became ill in 2009. She was predeceased by Timothy on August 3, 2010.
Ida was a member of the Beekman Baptist Church and enjoyed many hobbies such as cooking, baking, and reading. She cherished the outdoors and loved walking through nature.
She is survived by her mother, Ida Finney of Carmel; her son, Timothy J. Shortal of Danbury, CT; her daughter, Tammy L. DeShay & her husband Derek of Newburgh; her grandson, Ryan Shortal; her siblings, Mary Hyatt (Marcus), Henry Finney, Marion Brannan (John), Virginia Williams (Ernest), Fred Finney, Dixie Kessler (Edward); and her sister-in-law, Dorothy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives & friends.
In addition to her husband, Ida was also predeceased by her father, Ernest Finney, as well as three brothers: Robert Finney, Raymond Finney, and Charles Finney.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Beekman Baptist Church, 1068 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
