Obituary for
Deborah Jean "Debbie" Gurski
Deborah Jean Gurski, 66, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1974 and previously of Pittsburgh, PA, died on June 13, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on March 27, 1952 in Richland, Washington, Debbie was the daughter of Andrew W. and Laurel (Langedahl) Campbell.
Debbie proudly served our country in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1973 during the Vietnam War as a Sgt. After the Air Force, she attended Marist College for 10 years attending night classes and graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in 1981. She worked as the Corporate Audit Worldwide Investigations Managers at IBM for 34 years until her retirement in 2016.
On January 28, 1972 in Wrightstown, NJ, Debbie married the love of her life, Richard L. Gurski.
She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and a mentor for the RCIA program at St. Columba as well as a CCD Teacher. She enjoyed going to pulmonary rehab exercise class in Poughkeepsie. She loved reading, cooking, crossword puzzles, casino trips and spending time with her family and planning family get-togethers.
In addition to her husband, Debbie is survived by her children, Erin Gurski Butt and her husband Eric of Poughkeepsie, Richard J. Gurski and his wife Renee of Tennessee; her granddaughters, Kelsey and Hailey Butt; her sister, Carol Murray and her husband Henry of Staten Island; his mother in law, Frances Gurski of Hopewell Junction; and her sister in law, Carolyn Windus and her husband John of Yorktown Heights; and her nieces and nephews, Katy Maklari and her husband Daniel, Meagan Murray and Brian Murray.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by military honors.
Memorial donations may be made to Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Beacon, Dutchess County ASPCA, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
