Obituary for Guidon Frederick "Guy" Petroziello

Hopewell Junction, NY - Guidon (Guy, Gaetano) Petroziello, 71, an area resident since January and formerly of Colonia, NJ, died on July 27, 2018 at the Sapphire Nursing Home due to complications of advanced prostate cancer. He fought a courageous battle with this relentless disease.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 14, 1947, he was the son of Frederick Joseph and Catherine “Peggy” (Skrzysowski) Petroziello. As a 17 year old George Westinghouse Vocational and Technical High School graduate, Guy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the time of the Vietnam War. Guy was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran and earned the rank of Sgt. while he was stationed in Germany and Thailand. Guy was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Guy had been employed as a telecommunications consultant for Con Edison for 28 years until his illness. Prior to working at Con Ed, Guy worked at Western Union and IT&T. At Con Ed, he was well respected and was able to produce work at the level of a classical-trained Electrical Engineer.

Guy loved dining out, socializing, and helping his family and friends. Reading books, watching old movies, and television especially, “The Big Bang Theory” was a favorite pastime of Guy’s. He loved listening to Neil Diamond and old country music. He also loved all animals including his dogs, Queenie, Pooh, Ginger and Venus. A very generous man, Guy supported many religious organizations, as well as groups that supported children and animals.

Guy is survived by his sisters and their husbands, Lucille & Karl Sokol, Alice & Leo Sabatino, and Kathleen & Dennis Edwards; his nieces and nephews, Jon & Kim Sokol, Leonardo & Christina Sabatino, and Kayleen & Chad Allen; and his great nephews and niece, Tanner, Noah, and Bailey. We miss you Guy, but know you will forever be in our hearts and a part of our family. We love you.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 19, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Rt. 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will follow with military honors. A cemetery service at Sacred Heart will take place in Dupont, PA on August 20, 2018.

Guidon’s family would like to thank the Sapphire Nursing Home in Wappingers Falls, Dr. Jai, Ron and Sonia and all the nurses, aides and staff that became his second family.
