Obituary for
Vincent Lettieri
BEACON - Vincent Lettieri, 57, a resident of Beacon and Hopewell Junction since 1970, died on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, following a prolonged and courageous battle with a series of illnesses. Born in the Bronx on March 15, 1961, he was the son of the late Vincent Primo Lettieri and the late Joanne (Downs) Lettieri.
Vin was the consummate entertainer, having played in several bands in the area and beyond, including as guitarist and backing vocalist for Steve DePass (“America’s Singing Poet”) and, most recently, as a vocalist and guitarist with Ginger Jungle. A talented singer, guitarist and songwriter, Vin was always the life of the party and had a knack for making people laugh and smile. He grew up in a musical family, singing and playing with his siblings; they would also put on performances and make creative and funny videos.
Early in life, Vin was drawn to Elvis Presley, emulating his moves and singing style. Later, even as he discovered hard rock and pop music, Vin would still devote a portion of his act to his Elvis impersonation. Even when he wasn’t on stage, as long as there was a guitar or piano handy, Vin could provide “instant entertainment” at any gathering.
In addition to his musical career, Vin worked at Fishkill Bowl in Fishkill and the Promenade Senior Day Program in New Windsor. It was at Promenade that Vin found his true calling in life, discovering how rewarding it was to work with senior citizens and engage them in social activities.
Vin enjoyed playing poker and would occasionally participate in tournaments. He also loved to travel.
As a teenager, Vin was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma; following treatment, he overcame great odds to graduate from John Jay High School.
In addition to his parents, Vin was predeceased by his youngest brother, Michael. He is survived by the love of his life, Ellen Manfredo; his siblings and their spouses: Kathleen and Richard Goldsmith of Poughkeepsie; Daniel Lettieri and Vance Yoshida of San Francisco, CA; and Paul Lettieri and Wanda Baez of Poughkeepsie; his nephews, Michael and Paul Lettieri of Hyde Park; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Vin will be remembered for the music and laughter he brought to countless people. Memories will brighten a world that became a little darker with his passing.
The family is extremely grateful to the many doctors, nurses, aides, techs, therapists and others who were involved with Vin’s care. Special thanks goes to the staff at Northeast Rehabilitation Center in Lake Katrine, where Vin spent much of the last two years; as well as Vassar Brothers Medical Center, for the outstanding care they gave to Vin in his final days.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 1 to 5 p.m., at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Donations may be made to Promenade Senior Day Program, 264 Windsor Highway, New Windsor, NY 12553 in Vin’s memory. Please visit his Book of Memories at mchoulfuneralhome.com.
