Obituary for Joseph P. Cascio Sr.

Joseph P. Cascio, Sr., a ten-year resident of Beacon, formerly of Virginia Beach, Mahopac, and Westchester County, died at the River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie on Friday, March 11, 2016. He was 84.

Son of the late Rosario and Anna (Leone) Cascio, he was born in New Rochelle on July 28, 1931. A Korean War Veteran, he joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and remained on active duty until being honorably discharged in 1954. He was in the 45th Infantry Thunderbird Division.

On May 17, 1953, he married Adeline A. Passariello, his wife of 62 years, at Immaculate Conception Church in North Tarrytown. They raised their family in North Tarrytown, where Joseph worked for the school district’s maintenance department for 30 years.

Proud of his military service, he was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5491 in Mahopac, American Legion Post 203 in Beacon, and the V.F.W. Post 1939 Fife, Drum and Bugle Corps in Tarrytown.

Joseph was also a volunteer for the Union Hose Engine 86 Co. 2 in Sleepy Hollow and the Ossining Fire Company. He was a Scoutmaster for the B.S.A. and member of the Knights of Columbus as well. He served as an usher for many parishes including Immaculate Conception Church in North Tarrytown, St. John’s Church in Mahopac, and St. Anne’s Church in Ossining.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and hiking. He was also an excellent artist, sharing many of his paintings with family and friends.

His wife Adeline survives at home in Beacon. Additional survivors include his son, Russell J. Cascio & his wife Deborah of Wappingers Falls; his daughter, Philomena Kyle & her husband Brian of Beacon; his son, Joseph P. Cascio, Jr. & his wife Judy of Beacon; his son, Peter J. Cascio & his wife Jennifer of Virginia Beach, VA; his grandchildren, Christopher Cascio, Tara Cappelli, Stephanie Cappelli, Siobhan Kyle, Dylan Kyle, Brookelynn Kyle, Devin Smith, Addie Cascio, Katie Cascio, Holly Lynn Young & her husband Phillip, and Eddie Bennett & his wife Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Warren, Jessica, Noel, Alexandria, Kayla, Karleigh, Andrew, and Mason; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.

Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Luciano Cascio as well as two sisters, Marie DeJulio and Rose Pettruzzi.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 18 at the Wappingers Rural Cemetery on Route 9D in Wappingers Falls.
