LAGRANGEVILLE - Joseph J. Garan, Jr., 81, died on March 6, 2018 at the Lutheran Care Center.

Born in Yonkers on July 5, 1936, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Cater) Garan. Joseph was the owner and operator of Garan Trucking in Yonkers. He was a parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville. An avid sports fan, he was the Past President of both Richard’s Boys Club in Yonkers and the Beekman Athletic Club.

On September 16, 1956 at St. Eugene’s Church in Yonkers, Joseph married his childhood sweetheart, Rita Rubeo who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Lori Ann and Val Polidoro of Ossining, Joseph Garan III of Putnam Valley, Patricia and John Higham of LaGrangeville, Diane Garan and Ralph Roberto of Ossining, and Jennifer and Joe Guerriero of Westminster, CO; his daughter-in-law, Janine Garan of LaGrangeville; his siblings, Ronald Garan of Yonkers, Gary Garan of Milford, CT, and Donna O’Connor of Thousand Oaks, CA; 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Garan, on January 1, 2014.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville.
