Obituary for Jacqueline A. Carey


Jacqueline Andrews Carey, 73, an area resident since 1967 and formerly of Norfolk, VA, passed away surrounded by family on March 10, 2018.

Born in Norfolk, VA on March 13, 1944, she was the daughter of James William and Cornelia Frances Graves Andrews. Jacqueline was a 1962 graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. She earned a B.S. in 1966 from Longwood University in Farmville, VA and an M.S. in 1973 from SUNY New Paltz.

Jacqueline was a teacher with the Wappingers Central School District and the City of Poughkeepsie School District until her retirement in 2002. She was an active member of the New Hackensack Reformed Church where she served as an Elder and Deacon, taught Sunday school, and was part of the handbell choir. She was also a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind. Jaqueline enjoyed needlepoint, quilting and traveling in their RV throughout the United States and Canada. She had a great love for animals, especially Labrador Retrievers.

Jacqueline was dedicated to her family and friends. She married William Jerry Carey on July 1, 2001 who survives at home. She is also survived by her children John Robinson and his fiancée Holly Schomann of Brooklyn, N.Y., Elizabeth (Robinson) Heaton and her husband Kevin of Boston, M.A., Kristen (Carey) Hershman and her husband Charles of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Leah and Jack Heaton, CJ and Kaitlyn Hershman; her sisters Beverly Andrews Lowe, Gail Andrews Casselton and her husband Thomas; her first husband Linwood G. Robinson, Jr.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. 12533. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Hackensack Reformed Church, 1580 Route 376, Wappingers Falls, N.Y. 12590.
