Obituary for Nancy J. "Mrs. Ben" Hayton

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Nancy J. “Mrs. Ben” Hayton, 86, a lifelong area resident, died on April 10, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Beacon on October 27, 1931, she was the daughter of James and Dorothy (Wenzel) McAvery. Nancy graduated from Wappingers High School in 1949 where she lettered in cheerleading. She had been employed as a telephone operator with the Sylvan Lake Telephone Company.

Nancy was a member of the Church of the Resurrection. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, traveling, decorating and shopping. She also loved animals.
“Mrs. Ben” was a great supporter and friend of the John Jay High School Patriots. Her presence at sporting events was almost as important as the coaches, officials, and the players themselves. She and Ben traveled with the soccer and basketball teams to many of their tournaments. In 2012, she was presented with the Sonny Macrini Special Service Award from the Thomas D. Macrini Sports Hall of Fame.

On October 5, 1952 at the Church of the Resurrection, Nancy married the love of her life, Ben Hayton, who survives at home. Next month, they would have been together for 70 years! She is also survived by her son, Glenn Hayton and his wife Cindy of Sharon Springs; her grandson, Trevor Locke; her cousin, Carol Coons; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be on Saturday at 12pm at the Church of the Resurrection followed by interment in Hopewell Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Dutchess County SPCA. Please visit Nancy’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
