Obituary for Helen Jean Kurisko

POUGHKEEPSIE - Helen Jean Kurisko, 95, an area resident since 1998 and formerly of Yonkers, NY died on April 12, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Czechoslovakia on November 26, 1922, she was the daughter of Mary & Matej Siska. As a young woman, she worked on the first IBM tabulator at William T. Knott and retired to raise a family. Helen was an active member of the Red Hat Society and Elks Club. She and her husband enjoyed dancing, traveling the world after they retired and spending as much time with their family as possibly. A devoted daughter, wife and mother, her grandchildren were her world.

On September 28, 1946, Helen married John Kurisko who predeceased her in 2007. She is survived by daughters Susan Kurisko Nunez and her husband Louis D. Nunez, MD of Fishkill, and Nancy Kurisko Nardi and her companion William Klahn of Jacksonville, FL; and her grandchildren, Kristin Susan Nunez of Alexandria, VA, and John Louis Nunez and his wife Vanessa Byrne Nunez of Fishkill. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her grandson-in-law, Eric Paul Laschinger.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 11am at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
