BEACON – Edward A. Lucas, a longtime resident of Beacon, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, April 23, 2018 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.
Born on January 13, 1926 in Beacon, he was the son of the late Andrew and Victoria (Podloski) Lucas. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged from active-duty service in 1946.
Edward was a hard worker who held numerous jobs throughout his life. He worked as a bus driver for the Beacon City School District and also owned & operated E.A. Lucas Trucking. He retired as Supervisor of Engineering from the V.A. Hudson Valley Health Care System at Castle Point.
He was a member of the Beacon V.F.W. Post #666 and Beacon American Legion Post #203. He also belonged to the Bear Mountain C.B. Radio Club. Edward was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed camping. He loved being a mechanic and was always working on vehicles and heavy equipment. More than anything else, he cherished spending time with his family and will be remembered for the great stories that he always shared with them.
On May 25, 1947, he married Georgia “Lorraine” Aldrich in Beacon. After 70 years of marriage, Georgia predeceased him on November 28, 2017.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Marlene Cole; his son, Stephen Lucas; his grandchildren, Kyle & Rhiannon Lucas, Shelby & Joseph Day, Andrew Lucas, Glen Pavelock, and Jonathan Lucas; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rose Haight, Mary Goodall, and Margaret Baker; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Barney.
Mr. Lucas was also predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Jane Lucas and son-in-law, Douglas Cole.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 25th from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26th at the funeral home, followed by interment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
