Obituary for Robert E. Weeks

Robert E. Weeks, an area resident since 1952 and formerly of Ossining, passed from this life on April 30, 2018 at the FDR Veterans Administration Hospital in Montrose, NY following a short illness.

Born in Ossining on March 15, 1927, he was the only child of Harry and Margorie Hoffman Brown Weeks. He proudly served our country in the European Theater during WWII, enlisting in the Army Air Corps while still in high school, and receiving a wartime diploma. He was employed by the IBM Corporation, and worked at several facilities in the Poughkeepsie area until his retirement in 1984.

Bob was predeceased by his wife, Anna, who met him when they were both members of the Croton/Ossining VFW Drum Corps. They were married on March 12, 1949 at the Asbury Methodist Church in Croton-on-Hudson. He is survived by his sons and their wives Don and Janine Weeks of Hopewell Junction, and Glen and Sandra Michelsen of Lake Carmel; granddaughters Julia Paesano and her husband Anthony of Poughquag, and Lauren Brooks and her husband Stephen of Montevallo, AL; step grand children and their families, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob was an avid bowler throughout his life, and remained active in competitive leagues well into his 90th year. He was also a fan of drag racing, and antique cars, and in recent years was a frequent participant at local car shows and cruise-ins where he showed off his pride and joy baby blue 1978 Chevrolet Caprice, and enjoyed chatting with like-minded friends. He was very involved with the local senior community and had many close friends. He spent many happy hours sharing bus trips and other events with his very special friend and much loved companion, Doreen Volnick of Poughkeepsie.

A memorial gathering will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Wednesday, May 9, from 4 to 8pm followed by military honors at 8pm. Private interment services will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation made to any of the many Veterans' organizations would be very much appreciated by the family. For online condolences and memorial donations, visit Robert's Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
