Obituary for Idella N. Warga (Nolle)

Idella took great pride recently for being recognized at the Dutchess County Office for the Aging’s annual Celebration of Aging Luncheon. She was the guest of honor at 3 months shy of 103 years old. Idella was one of “the greatest generation” who lived through the great depression, the attack on Pearl Harbor, and World War II. She survived having her beloved husband missing in action in the South Pacific.

Idella died peacefully at the Pines of Poughkeepsie’s long term care facility on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, two weeks after being the “belle of the ball” at the Office for the Aging’s celebration. She was born on August 22, 1915, to Rosemarie Heinsinger and Hugo Nolle in Goodyear, Connecticut. As one of five siblings, she and her family moved to Central Valley, New York, in Orange County when she was twelve. She lived on the same street for 90 years.

As a young woman, she used her artistic talents as a window designer for Ford’s Store in Central Valley. She married Charles J. Warga of Peekskill, a professional golfer on October 19, 1941, and after following him on the golf tour and after World War II, she and Charlie settled in Central Valley to raise their daughters Bonnie Jean and Barbara Lee. She was devoted to her family and friends. Idella was the keeper of the memories of Central Valley, her beloved home. Having outlived her siblings, she was the lone survivor and keeper of her families’ memories. She considered herself a pioneer woman, emotionally resilient and steadfast and, of course, stubborn.

She was predeceased by her cherished husband Charlie in 1992, her parents Rosemarie and Hugo, her brother Paul Nolle, and sisters Mildred Branick, Arlene Mitchell, and Erna Benjamin. Idella is survived by her daughters Bonnie Warga Biskup and her husband Louis of Poughquag, NY and Barbara Warga Voigt and her husband John of Peoria, AZ. She is also survived by grandsons Michael Biskup and his wife Courtney of Leominster, MA, Mark Biskup of Poughquag, NY, Steven Voigt of Puyallup, WA, and Scott Voigt of Peoria, AZ. Idella’s great grandchildren include Hogan, Jagger, and Baker Biskup and Adrian Voigt.

Calling hours will be held Monday, June 11th from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M., followed by a short memorial service performed by Rev. Heather Finck of the Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church at McHoul Funeral Home in Hopewell Junction, NY. Burial will be at St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Harriman, NY, at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, June 12.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Pines of Poughkeepsie and the staff of the fifth floor for their tender loving care of Idella.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital.
