Obituary for Alma Nora Martinez (Quintana)

WAPPINGERS FALLS - Alma Nora Martinez, 82, an area resident since 1966, died on June 9, 2018 at Wingate at Beacon. She had resided in Wappingers Falls, Fishkill and New York City.

Born in Matanzas, Cuba on January 30, 1936. She was the daughter of Jose and Maria (Rovira) Quintana. Alma was a bilingual teacher at Forrestal Elementary School in Beacon for 26 years until her retirement in 2002. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, and volunteered at Mount Alvernia in Wappingers Falls. Alma loved to paint and was a very caring teacher and mother. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

On January 9, 1960 in Cuba, Alma married Ricardo A. Martinez who predeceased her on April 11, 2012. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jose I. Vascos and Teresa Santamaria of Brooklyn, Maria E. Martinez-Jacobson and Ronald Jacobson of Poughquag, Richard J. Martinez of Hoboken, NJ, and Alina I. and Leslie Harrington of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Andrew and Kassie Jacobson, Matthew and Isabel Harrington, and Luke Vascos; and her nephew, Oswaldo Santa Cruz and wife Michele and two children Michael and Jason. She was also predeceased by her sister, Norma Santa Cruz.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, June 15 at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., Hopewell Junction.
