FISHKILL – Virginia “Jeannie” Nohai, a resident of Fishkill since 1964 and formerly of Cold Spring and Peekskill, died on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 89.
Daughter of the late Charles J. and Carmella M. (Arpaio) Chefalo, she was born in Peekskill on August 1, 1929. On November 6, 1955, Virginia married Donald V. Nohai at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill. For many years, she worked in the cafeteria for I.B.M. at their East Fishkill location. She had previously worked for department stores in Peekskill and Fishkill. Virginia was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald on March 17, 2000. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by an infant daughter, Donna Marie Nohai; her brother, Thomas Chefalo; and her sister, Tina Mastranunzio.
Jeannie is survived by three sons: Donald V. Nohai, Jr. of Los Gatos, CA, Jon M. Nohai & his wife Marilyn of San Jose, CA, and Charles J. Nohai of North Hollywood, CA; her grandchildren, Dominic Nohai, Carmella Nohai, and Justin Ludwig & his wife Mildred; her brother, Joseph Chefalo & his wife Sharon of Newhall, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary School Angel Fund, P.O. Box 780, Fishkill NY 12524.
