Obituary for Anna Marie "Nan" Ainsworth (O'Bryan)

Anna Marie "Nan" Ainsworth (O'Bryan)
FISHKILL – Anna Marie “Nan” Ainsworth, a lifelong local area resident, died on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Wingate at Dutchess Nursing Facility in Fishkill. She was 95.

Daughter of the late Maurice and Katherine (Fay) O’Bryan, she was born in East Kingston on April 24, 1923. Her family later relocated to Dutchess County. Nan graduated from Beacon High School and then attended Krissler Business Institute in Poughkeepsie.

She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill, where she donated her time by setting up and maintaining the church’s floral arrangements, laundering vestments, and other tasks. She also volunteered for Nifty Thrifty in Fishkill.

She was a homemaker for many years, and later went on to work for the Wappingers Central School District as a secretary at several schools including Van Wyck Junior High School, Roy C. Ketcham High School, and John Jay High School.

Nan enjoyed playing bridge. She and seven of her closest friends would gather regularly to play the game and share food, alternating the host household each time. This tradition continued for over 60 years.

On October 10, 1942, she married Harry L. Ainsworth at St. John The Evangelist Church in Beacon. Nan was predeceased by Harry on November 14, 1995.

She is survived by her son, Harry L. Ainsworth & his wife Susanne of Litchfield, CT; her daughter, Kim Ainsworth of Southport; her son, Bryan Ainsworth of Fishkill; her son-in-law, Lindsay Northam of Cape Cod, MA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives & friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Fay Ann Northam, in 2006, and her five siblings: Frances O’Bryan, John O’Bryan, Othelia Bondur, Catherine Lyons, and Frances Martin.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 23 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, September 24 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary School Angel, P.O. Box 780, Fishkill NY 12524.
