Condolences

Condolence From: Peter Chelak
Condolence: I would like to express my condolences to the Short family for your loss. I just found out today of Tom's passing. I was a very good friend of Tom's during his IBM years in the late 80's. Tom attended my wedding in 1995 but we unfortunately lost touch with each other when he moved to the Pennsylvania area. It was wonderful to read that his favorite place was Long Beach Island, I spent many weekends after 3rd. shift with Tom and friends at the house and on the boat. They are great memories I will never forget. Rest in peace buddy....

Condolence: I don't even know where to begin. Tom, we started at Minisink at the same time, 22 years ago. There isn't a memory of Minisink that doesn't have you in it. I have pictures hanging in my classroom and they all have you in them. You were one of the most generous people I've ever met. We had so many laughs at lunch and so many stories that we talked about over and over again. Remember the Superman shirt I bought you? All because you always seem to be on the rescue to save someone!! I'm sorry you suffered my friend. We all miss you so much. I hope that you are at peace and that you know that we all miss you. Rest in peace my dear friend Tom. My deepest sympathies to your family as well.

Condolence: My Dear Tom ... words cannot express how huge the void in my heart is now that you're gone. I wake up each day praying that losing you was just a bad dream. I will always remember your smile, your laughter, and how deeply you cared for me and for my sons. It will always warm my heart knowing how much we helped each other through a whole bunch of rough spots. And knowing how much I loved you ... and just how much you loved me back. I will carry these memories with me until we meet again. I love and miss you more than words can say... Jeanne

Condolence: You were a great guy!!! And you were really way more than that! I remember all of those class trips to the Greenville YMCA Camp where we fished each time not being sure we were even allowed to. There I jumped in the water to save a turtle and you went up to the center and bought me a shirt so I could be dry. You were always a caring guy, and I still have, and occasionally still wear, that shirt. I have a picture of you in that tiny race go-cart that they had on display. Of course there was the salmon fishing trip with me, you, and Mike C. Lots of laughs there especially about the funny sleeping arrangements in that extremely crowded camper. You had very cold feet! Then there was the time we had to serve someone with court papers and it was all pretty scary where this guy lived! You were the get-away driver! When I first became a teacher you included me and my class with yours to have math competitions and contests in a game you called Jeopardy. I still use that game to this day! I remember before I even got a job there you requested me as a sub which I always appreciated. As your sub you set me up with that clock that was supposed to work from the energy in lemons! Of course as a new sub in front of a class of 30... it never worked! Then remember that practically weightless tin bell the size of a dime that I threw at you and it hit that girl? You know how well that went! Oh and basketball in the gym with a few people. You had that tiny cut on your finger and it wouldn't stop bleeding. From that tiny cut there was blood on the ball, on all of our shirts, and all over the floor. It looked like a murder scene! Of course pasta for Pennies, an organization you worked so hard for! They were lucky to have you! You were extremely devoted! Tom, you were a great guy and I miss you! I know about your work in the science fair and you volunteering to be on the Suicide Committee, and you running Student Council for the students. You always got us going on the egg drop and we haven't done it since you left. You graduated maybe the most valedictorians and from what I know they all mentioned your name in their graduation speeches. You deserve to have people know this stuff about you! I am so sorry you died! You were all heart man! All heart! You will always be in my prayers and in my thoughts! I wish you had more time! I know you were hurting from your neck and back problems. I hope you found peace from that! I will see you again one day! Thanks for all of the memories! You will not be forgotten! Mike S.

Condolence: I am deeply saddened by the news that my favorite teacher has passed. Mr. short was my fifth grade teacher, I met him at one of the most difficult points in my childhood. I was just diagnosed with dyslexia, ADHD, and my family was going through a divorce. He understood me and he took me in. He took extra time and effort to make sure I left his classroom in june at not just a 6th grade level but at a 7th/8th grade level. Mr.Short taught me math by having me help him count the chnage he recieved from Pasta for Pennies, He spent extra time teaching me how to make spelling and sounding out words easier. He Was the first teacher who didnt treat me like I was dumb. He saw potential in me, he pushed me as a student as well as a person. Ill never forget when i spelled the word “classification” in our “buzz-off” spelling game; he jumped up off the desk, put his arm around my shoulder and announced to the whole class, that i “walked into his class room at a 3rd/4th grade level and now im leaving him at a 7th grade level and began to speak about how proud he was of me”. Those words stuck with me for my entire learning career. He made honor roll, academic achievement awards, and deans list in college possible for me. I owe a lot to this man and will never forget how absolutely amazing he was during that time in my life. I regret never vocalizing just how much that school year meant to meand how it changed me as a student. My family and I give our deepest condolences to his family, I wish nothing but absolute peace and content for Mr. Short, I will carry his lessons with me forever.
