Obituary for James P. Burke

James P. Burke, 57, an area resident since 1977 and previously of New York City, died on October 22, 2018 at Kaplan Family Hospice Center in Newburgh after a short, brave fight with brain cancer.

Born on November 3, 1960 in New York City, Jimmy was the son of Francis and Kathleen (Clarkin) Burke.

Jimmy served our country as an Army Reserve Medic and was an employee for AT&T through IBM in Fishkill for 29 years. His most recent position was a Project Manager in the Service Delivery Organization where his contributions were highly respected by his customers and peers. To say sports was Jimmy’s world would not be enough. He was a huge fan of the NY Jets and NY Mets; he knew all the statistics of all the players and teams for every year. He enjoyed fantasy baseball with his friends for many years. He was a hard worker, lovingly took care of his mother for several years, and was blessed with many loving friends.

Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Burke of Fishkill; his siblings, Thomas Burke and his wife Karen of Milton and Catherine Burke of Fishkill; his nieces and nephew, Kristen Burke of Fishkill, Kayla Burke of PA, Chelsea Wheeler and her husband Tyler of PA, and Jake Eadie of Milton; and his great nephews, Gavin and Landon.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Rd, Hopewell Junction. Burial will follow at St. Denis Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice to support Glioblastoma Brain Cancer. Please visit Jimmy’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
