Obituary for Francis J. "Frank" Bergman

Francis J. "Frank" Bergman
STORMVILLE – Francis J. Bergman, 74, a resident of Stormville since 1974, died on October 20, 2018. He previously lived in Poughkeepsie.

Born in Manhattan on July 10, 1944, Frank was the son of the late Frank and Madeline (Plate) Bergman. In June of 1966 at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley, Frank married Sharon (Horan) Bergman who survives at home.

Frank was active in the church and his faith was his core strength. He attended St. Mary’s Seminary and maintained strong Redemptorist ties throughout his life.

He started out his professional life as a teacher in the Arlington School District. He was then employed at IBM for almost 35 years in various roles culminating as Programming Manager. During his time with IBM, he served a 4 year assignment in England, with a territory which included Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Frank’s passion was the Hudson River. He was an avid boater, but he also worked tirelessly to protect its waters. He was seven time President of the Hudson River Boat and Yacht Club Association as well as President Emeritus. He was appointed to NYSDEC Hudson River Estuary Program, and three time Commodore of the Pirate Canoe Club. He also served as an ambassador on the Walkway Over the Hudson. Additionally, he was a driving force behind the planning and execution of the 2009 Hudson River Quadricentennial Celebration. He and his wife enjoyed worldwide travel, and he was proud to share stories of their visits to all seven continents!

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Frank is survived by his son, William Bergman and his wife Jeanette of Vienna, VA; his daughter, Ranni Rosmus of Stormville; his grandsons, Tyler Book and Nickolas Bergman; his sister, Patricia Franco; his sisters-in-law, Linda Bergman and Karen Kensington his aunt Florence Rosenthal and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Robert Bergman.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction with a Pirate Service to be held there at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 am at St. Denis Church followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.

Donations may be made in Frank’s memory to Walkway Over the Hudson. Please visit his Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
