Santa Sanchez, a local area resident for more than 60 years, died on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Daughter of the late Francisco and Emilia (Ingles) Quintana, she was born on April 21, 1933 in Añasco, Puerto Rico, one of 15 children.
Santa was preceded in death by her husband, Gonzalo Sanchez, who died on December 11, 1988.
For over 25 years, she worked in the food service department at Castle Point V.A. Medical Center. She was a longtime active member of Tabernacle of Christ Church in Beacon.
Santa cherished spending time with her family and friends, and she traveled frequently to be in their presence.
She is survived by two sons: Celso Sanchez of Fishkill and Roberto Sanchez & his partner Malinda Brown of Holly Hill, FL; her grandchildren, Angelica Brand, Alex Kellerman, Maribel Gonzalez & her husband Jason, and Michael Dougherty & his wife Carrie; her great-grandchildren, Aubrie Settle, Kiara Vazquez, Yarielis Vazquez, Jaymarie Gonzalez, Jordan Dougherty, Michael Dougherty, Michele Dougherty, Sean Dougherty, and Emma Dougherty; her great-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Ciara; and many other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Santa was also predeceased by her daughter, Nellie Sanchez, in 2008.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, November 30 at Tabernacle of Christ Church, 483 Main Street, Beacon. A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. immediately following the visitation. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 1 at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill.
