WAPPINGERS FALLS – Dominic Luongo, 68, an area resident since 1954 and formerly of Italy, died on January 10, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Naples, Italy on May 8, 1950, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Immaculata (Carrino) Luongo. Dominic graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1968. He then went on to become a tool and die maker, graduated with high honors, and then served as an apprentice with Boice Gages in Hyde Park. Dominic, who enjoyed serving the community, retired as manager of William Tell Hardware in Hopewell Junction. He had previously owned and operated Red Oaks Mill Hardware Store with former Wife Linda in Poughkeepsie and worked at Home Depot.

Dominic is survived by his partner, Faye Petti at home; his daughters and their husbands, Nicole and Anthony Palmietto of Hopewell Junction, Krista and Nicholas McGovern of Beacon, and Stefanie and Jason Schuhay of Fishkill; his stepson, Jeremy Petti of Snowmass Village, CO; his grandchildren, Elena, Abby, and AJ Palmietto and Sofia McGovern; his sisters, Amalia (Joseph) Raguseo, Maria (John) Wilson, Mina (Debra) Luongo, Carmela (Richard) Galm, and Antoinette Luongo; his former wife, Linda Luongo, who he has remained close friends with; and many nieces and nephews.

Dominic enjoyed painting and singing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a friend to all, whose caring demeanor always put people at ease.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.

Peace in hearts and minds to all of us left behind by Dom's passing. I only knew him from William Tell, but over a good number of years he became a friend and a trusted source of information on all things hardware- and project-related. Besides his warm and lively personality, I'll miss our chats about beer, wine, espresso, singing and Italy. Rest in Peace, younger brother!

Its no secret Dominic was a very special man.
On his worst day, he could make you smile and forget your problems. It didn't matter what was going on his life, he had time for you. He made YOU feel important and special and that's what made him special.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
God Bless.

My condolences to Dom's family and close friends. We worked together at William Tell for a few years and became friends. I always looked forward to seeing him when our days coincided. Turned out that our paths crossed years before we ever worked together! He knew our dearest friends (The French Connection) and attended the same celebration we did at the Woronock House. We have mutual friends. A few years back, we spent an afternoon enjoying a lunch with another former employee and then revisiting some of Dom's earlier experiences.

He and I used to sing along to the music provided in the hardware store - it was great to have someone else who enjoyed the same tunes.

I heard his stories about Poughkeepsie and could definitely relate, although my growing years were not spent there.

I'll always remember Dom as a kind and sweet friend. His legacy lives on.

To Dom's family and close friends - you were blessed to have this man in your lives.

The "Plant Lady"
