Obituary for Dominic Luongo

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Dominic Luongo, 68, an area resident since 1954 and formerly of Italy, died on January 10, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Naples, Italy on May 8, 1950, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Immaculata (Carrino) Luongo. Dominic graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1968. He then went on to become a tool and die maker, graduated with high honors, and then served as an apprentice with Boice Gages in Hyde Park. Dominic, who enjoyed serving the community, retired as manager of William Tell Hardware in Hopewell Junction. He had previously owned and operated Red Oaks Mill Hardware Store with former Wife Linda in Poughkeepsie and worked at Home Depot.

Dominic is survived by his partner, Faye Petti at home; his daughters and their husbands, Nicole and Anthony Palmietto of Hopewell Junction, Krista and Nicholas McGovern of Beacon, and Stefanie and Jason Schuhay of Fishkill; his stepson, Jeremy Petti of Snowmass Village, CO; his grandchildren, Elena, Abby, and AJ Palmietto and Sofia McGovern; his sisters, Amalia (Joseph) Raguseo, Maria (John) Wilson, Mina (Debra) Luongo, Carmela (Richard) Galm, and Antoinette Luongo; his former wife, Linda Luongo, who he has remained close friends with; and many nieces and nephews.

Dominic enjoyed painting and singing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a friend to all, whose caring demeanor always put people at ease.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
