Obituary for Joginder L. Ailawadhi

Joginder Lal Ailawadhi came to the US from India in 1970 with two suitcases and 8 dollars. This journey far from home was not new to him since, at age 10, he and his family fled from Pakistan to India. So many times, he told his daughters that his family would have never reached their destination without the help of good friends along the way.

Therefore, it is no surprise, that over the last 49 years in Poughkeepsie, NY, he has collected friends from all areas of his life that became his chosen family. With so much love to give, it was not hard to see why so many responded in kind. When people speak of him, there is a consistent theme: “He was a very kind and good man with a great sense of humor and a big heart”.

His way with people is what made him truly successful as the Primary Attorney at the Mental Hygiene Legal Services of New York since he represented individuals that had real need. Even with his demanding work, it was vitally important for him to dedicate his personal time to the Hindu Samaj and the Sikh Cultural Society. He retired from MHLS in 2001 and has spent the last 18 years enjoying his time with family and friends, both in the US and abroad.

He was a man of great faith which he impressed upon his daughters by teaching them integrity, honor, forgiveness and, most importantly, to respect all living things.
2018 was a stellar year for him since he celebrated his 80th birthday with all the people he loved and respected and the year was filled with travel and quality time spent with his daughters and Grandcats.

Please join us in celebrating his life, accomplishments, and to share stories at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 from 6:00pm-8:00pm. A short prayer service will follow at 8:00pm. Please visit his Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
