Obituary for Russell R. Garofalo

Dr. Russell R. Garofalo, 85, died on February 1, 2019 at home.

Born in the Bronx on March 16, 1933, he was the son of the late Silvio and Iris (Manselli) Garofalo. He graduated from AB Davis High School. He was Past Master Councilor of the Mount Vernon Masonic Youth Organization Order of DeMolay. He graduated from New York University in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1956, he received a 4 year New York State Regents Scholarship for Medicine and Dentistry at Columbia University. During junior and senior years, he was assistant to Dr. Edward Zegarelli, Director of the Division of Stomatology. He graduated from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in June 1959.

Dr. Garofalo was Editor-in-Chief of “The Dental Columbian”, the yearbook of the graduating class. At commencement exercises, Russ was awarded the Rowe-Wiberg Memorial Medal for Excellence in Prosthetic Dentistry, and the Ella Marie Ewell Medal for Proficiency in Dentistry. He taught operative dentistry half-time at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.

Dr. Garofalo practiced dentistry in While Plains for 40 years. Russ was a member of the Ninth District Dental Society since 1960 and on the Membership Committee since 1969. He was a member of the White Plains Dental Forum since 1962 and was the President of the Dental Forum from 1972 to 1973.

Russ enjoyed boating, golf and traveling. He was a gifted handyman with a workshop stocked with tools.

Russ married Barbara M. Marshall on June 27, 1959 who survives at home. His is also survived by his daughter, Lisa Garofalo; and his grandchildren, Alyssa and Brendan Gerety. His son, Glenn Marshall Garofalo predeceased him.

Russ will be inurned in the Columbarium at the Presbyterian Church in Mount Kisco with his son. Services will be private for the family.
