Obituary for Salvatore J. Mondello

Danbury - Salvatore J. Mondello, 84, formerly of Yorktown Heights and the Bronx, died on April 5, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in New York City on November 23, 1934, he was the son of Charles and Angelina Mondello. Salvatore proudly served our country in the US Army. He was employed as a teacher for the Pleasantville School District at Bedford Road School. During the summers and vacations, he worked at the family owned business, Stockertown Cheese, on Arthur Avenue, making the best mozzarella in New York City. For many years, he also ran the Vacation Day Camp at PS 56 Community Center, offering the children of the South Bronx an oasis of safety and happiness during the summer. He was an active member of “The Romeos”, and enjoyed playing pool and blackjack.

Salvatore is survived by his children, Michael (Elizabeth) Mondello, Lisa (Joseph) Sedlor, Gary (Wendy) Mondello; his grandchildren, Kyla, Jake and Sophia Mondello, Madison, Jacqueline and Ty Sedlor, Joseph and Pamela Mondello; and his brother, Benedict Mondello. He was predeceased by his siblings, Pauline Cirillo and Carmine Mondello.

Calling hours on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Jct. followed by entombment in Rose Hills Memorial Park.
