Obituary for John P. "Jack" Hogan
FISHKILL – John P. “Jack” Hogan, a local area resident since 1992 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 94.
Son of the late William and Mary (Kenny) Hogan, Jack was born in the Bronx on June 25, 1924. In 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served as an infantryman during World War II. He was honorably discharged from service as a Sergeant in 1945. Jack was the recipient of several recognitions including the Medal of Freedom, Bronze Star, Good Conduct, Victory, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign, and American Campaign Medals. Most notably, he was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle.
Jack had a long career with the I.R.S. at the organization’s facility in Manhattan, where he worked as a Tax Technician for many years until his retirement at the age of 62. He was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.
Jack was an avid sports fan who loved watching games that featured his favorite teams, including the New York Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers.
On April 9, 1950, he married Mary T. Dennehy at St. Peter & Paul Church in the Bronx. He was predeceased by his wife on May 31, 1994.
Survivors include his son, John Hogan & his wife Maura of St. Louis, MO; his daughter, Patricia Delaney & her husband John of Fishkill; his son, Richard Hogan of New Hope, PA; his grandchildren, Maureen Hogan, Eileen Hogan, Gregg Donohue & his wife Donna; and Matthew Donohue; his great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jack, Kyle, Olivia, and Chase; and several nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives & friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jack was predeceased by four siblings, William Hogan, Catherine Casey, Mary Bender, and James Hogan.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.
