Anne M. “Nancy” Costello Obituary

Anne M. “Nancy” Costello, 83, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family members on June 6, 2019, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. She had suffered a stroke at home.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to parents William and Anne Walker, Nancy was one of four siblings: William Walker (deceased), husband of Maureen Birmingham; Dorothy Murphy, wife of James; and Robert T. Walker, husband of Christine.

She was the loving wife of David B. Costello and raised three children -- Christopher Bacey, Susan A. Bacey and Lorraine Douglas (deceased); and three step-children Mary Lou Nameth, Catherine Nilsen and David Costello.

Nancy also was adored by her loving grandchildren and great-children, and many nieces, nephews and friends -- many whom were by her side or visited during the last few days.

She was a retired mortgage underwriter who had relocated to Dutchess County to raise her family and be closer to her brothers who retired from the NYPD. She enjoyed living near the water, stayed active and independent and regularly visited her family throughout the NYC metropolitan area.

Wake services will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Rt. 82, Hopewell Junction, N.Y. 12533 on Friday, June 7, from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, June 8 at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.

The family would like to extend thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of health care professionals at Vassar Brothers Medical Center for the kind and comforting care provided the past few days, as well as individual family members who contributed to her care.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials donations can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children. Please visit Nancy’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
