Obituary for Irma M. Sutton

POUGHKEEPSIE – Irma Sutton, 88, died unexpectedly on June 15, 2019 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Irma was born on January 20, 1931 in New Brunswick, Canada. She recently moved to Dutchess County, after living most of her life in Yonkers where she worked as a Registered Nurse at Yonkers Professional and Yonkers General Hospitals.

Irma was a parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction and formerly of St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers. She enjoyed doing puzzles, word finds, and scratch offs, playing Bingo and Scrabble, and listening to her music, but more than anything, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Irma had a one of a kind personality, she loved and touched so many people who had the joy to know her and spend time with her. She will always be remembered for making everyone laugh with her witty sense of humor, but most of all for her smile.

On May 4, 1956, Irma married Richard Sutton who predeceased her. She is survived by her children, Denise Merritt (Roger) of Hopewell Jct., Margaret McParland (Peter) of Yonkers, and Kenneth (Susan Bodolato) of Patterson; her grandchildren, Michelle, Alyssa Milano, Joseph Ragusa, and Kenneth Sutton, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Tyler Ragusa and Zoe Rose Ragusa, Aria Grace Anastasio, Delyla Diaz, Shea and Robert Laverty; her siblings, Carmel Roy (Allen), Ida Roy (Yvon), and George Doucet (Noreen);
her sister-in-law Jacqueline Doucet; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Richard D. Sutton, Jr., in 2009, and her son-in-law, Ralph Milano, in 2006.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers, NY.
