Virginia May Nardiello Born September 11, 1926 Died September 15 2019
Ginny was the daughter of Charles and Mildred Doscher, born in Port Chester, NY. She was predeceased by her older sister, Florence Gerhartz. She married Ralph B Gerlach from Port Chester, NY, with whom she gave birth to four daughers: Barbara Meeks of Port St Lucie, Fl; Linda Newby (deceased) formerly of Bethel, CT; Deborah Gerlach of Rehoboth Beach, DE; Meg Goodrich of Fishkill, NY
Ginny was further blessed with seven grandsons; James Murray, Glenn Murray, David Meeks, Jeff Vachna, Kyle Vachna, John Vachna, Jr and Daryl Vachna (deceased). Her great-grandchildren : Christopher Meeks, Ayden Murray, Dakota Murray, Jordan Murray, Ryan Murray, Chase Vachna and Cole Vachna.
Ginny was a lover and writer of poetry; a compassionate animal lover; music enthusiast, and firm supporter of literacy. Her early career was as a secretary at Sealectro, then worked as secretary to the Vice President of Sales of Dictaphone, where she not only ran the word processing center, as supervisor to all the other secretaries, but she was sent to other locations as a trainer. Ginny remarried on November 27, 1965, to the love of her life, Jim Nardiello who sadly passed away in 1971. She went on to work for the then prestigious law firm of Shea (of Shea Stadium renown) and Gould in New York City, where again she managed a word-processing center. When the owners of the law firm decided to part ways, Ginny found what would become the best, though least paid, job of her career - Adult Literacy.
She started as a tutor, then also served as a Board Member which led to her becoming President of the Board. Still working as a tutor and tutor trainer, she rose to the title of Exectutive Director for the Wayne Pike Adult Literacy Program in Honesdale, PA; retiring from that as a young 80-something year old.
She had been a member of the United Methodist Church in Dingmans Ferry, PA, where she met a congregation who became as family to her and her long-time companion and childhood friend, Hank Malloy. Upon Hank's death, Ginny moved to Fishkill with her youngest daughter and son-in-law, who survive at home. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5pm - 7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill. 1089 Main Street Fishkill, NY. A Graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11am at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers please send a donation to your local ASPCA/SPCA or Community Adult Literacy Program
