Obituary for Rolando E Vilar

Rolando E. Vilar, MD, a resident of Fishkill since 2013 and formerly of Mississippi and Pleasantville, passed away at home on Saturday, May 9, 2020. He was 67.

Son of Ignacio and Venancia (Estrella) Vilar, he was born in Manila, Philippines on December 16, 1952. Dr. Vilar studied medicine at UERMMC in the Philippines and received his medical degree in 1977. He emigrated to the United States in 1980 and completed his fellowship at New York Medical College in Valhalla.

Dr. Vilar was the Director of the St. John’s Riverside Hospital NICU in Yonkers from 1996-2004. He also worked as an associate professor at New York Medical College - Westchester Medical Center NICU. Dr. Vilar was currently practicing at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, where he began working in 2011.

On July 19, 1980, he married Maria Corpus in Manila. Maria survives at home in Fishkill.

Additional survivors include his son, Ronald “Vinney” Vilar & his wife Elaine Baker; his son, Thomas Vilar & his husband Kyle Shepard; his daughter, Christina Vilar; his grandson, Liam Vilar; and many other loving relatives & friends.

He was predeceased by his brother, Isagani Vilar, in 2013.

Dr. Vilar was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Here is a video honoring his life.
