Obituary

Michael Yankosky, 71, an area resident for 28 years and formerly of Yonkers, died on May 21st, the Holy Feast of Ascension Thursday, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Yonkers, on June 30, 1948 he was the son of the late Michael Yankosky Sr. and Rose Yankosky. He retired from the Yonkers Municipal Housing Authority after 30 years of service. He also worked for the Stop & Shop in the produce department. He enjoyed fishing with his friends, and jelly donuts! In his youth he received a brown belt in Karate and was a true Yankee Fan and avid gardener. He would always donate produce to the Fishkill Food Pantry.

On May 7th, 1977 Michael married Ann Marie (Vitale) at our Lady of Mount Carmel church in Yonkers. They were blessed with a daughter, Margaret Ann on May 9th, 1980. He is survived by his wife who lives at home, his daughter, Margaret and her spouse Chris Thorne of Milton. His grandson, Christopher Michael and grand daughter, Kaitlyn. His sister, Mary Ann King and husband Ronnie of Yonkers and his sister Rosemarie of Croton-on-Hudson. Mother in law, Anna Vitale of Fishkill. Brothers in law Joe & Arlene Vitale of Sarasota, FL, Anthony & Dena Vitale of Wildwood Crest, NJ. His family also included nieces Michelle Petruzzi (husband Lenny) and son Marco, Dawn and (husband Mario) Abbate and daughters Amanda, Brianna & Catherina; nephew Ronnie Jr. (wife Melissa), daughter Cecelia and sons Ron Jr. and Jax; nephew Joe Vitale and son Anthony; niece Gina Martucci (husband Mike) daughters Milania and Mia. His fishing buddy since 1972 Richie Vail.

Throughout his entire life Michael was a true gentleman, never had a bad word for anyone, helped everyone, and also had a smile and greeting for all. He will be forever treasured by his wife who worshipped the ground he walked on. He was her best friend and confidant. Michael was a loving father to his only child who absolutely adored him. As she said he was her best friend. They had a special bond with each other and loved spending time together just to talk and laugh. He was known as Pop-Pop to his grandchildren and he loved them dearly and they loved him dearly also. He was tragically taken from his family too soon as a result of a hit and run accident.

We will never forget him and thank God for every blessed memory we have. There will never be anyone as good and kind as he is in our lives. No service can be held at this time due to Covid-19. Burial is May 23rd at Fishkill Rural Cemetery .

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bowery Mission of NYC in Michael's name. Please visit his Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.

I never never knew Michael personally, but I do remember him walking all the time. He always said hello to me and told me to have a good day. There should be more people like him in today's society.
I've lived at Elmcrest Townhouses for over 25 years and Micheal is one of the few people that would acknowledge a hello.
My deepest condolences to Micheal's famiy.

My heart grieves for your family. I'm so very sorry. I didn't know Michael long but the times he would come & stop in to see you, Ann Marie, at Mid Hudon Medical when we were working--he always was smiling & joking. He lit up the room. My prayers are with you.
