Obituary for John A. Hennessy

POUGHKEEPSIE – John A. Hennessy, 72, died on September 21, 2020 at home with his wife by his side. A longtime area resident, he also resided in Winter Garden, FL for 20 years before moving back to New York.

Born in Brooklyn on July 10, 1948, John was the son of the late John and Irene (Crawford) Hennessy. John proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Orange County Information Systems and Services - Computer Operations in FL.

On October 23, 2000 in Las Vegas, John married Kathleen (McGinty) Hennessy who survives at home. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Michael Wisseman of LaGrangeville, NY and Breann Wisseman and her significant other Chris Morris-Wyley of LaGrangeville, NY; his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pop Pop”, Amber Wisseman, Brian Wisseman, Kaiden Morris-Wyley, and Kiera Morris-Wyley; his siblings, William and Nancy Hennessy of Virginia Beach, VA, Margaret Hennessey of Orlando, FL, Thomas and Rhonda Hennessy of Del Rio, TN, Susan Talton of Lithonia, GA, and Charles Hennessy of Orlando, FL; his in-laws, Andrew and Nancy Smith of St. Petersburg, FL, Joseph and Pamela McGinty of Hyde Park, NY and Susan and David Scalzo of LaGrangeville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on October 8, 2020 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A memorial service will be held at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery on October 9, 2020 at 11:15am followed by military honors.
