EAST FISHKILL – Janice M. Miceli, 67, an area resident for 53 years and formerly of Indiana, died on November 25, 2020 at Westchester Medical Center following a courageous battle.

Born in Indianapolis, IN on November 10, 1953, she was the daughter of George and Frances Sirko (Petersen). Janice was a paralegal and worked for several law offices during her career. She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, and a member of the Legal Professionals Association. Janice enjoyed golfing, traveling, walks on the beach, snorkeling, baking, crafts, and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

On January 12, 1974 at St. Denis Church, Janice married the love of her life, John Miceli, who survives at home. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Michelle and Timothy Murphy of Hyde Park, Heather and Anthony Scafidi of Hopewell Junction, and John Miceli of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Gus, Owen and Logan Murphy and Victoria, Giuliana, Antonia and Rocco Scafidi; her siblings, Loren Sirko, Leslie Hammer, Mark Sirko, Linda Vigliotti, David Sirko, Fran Kisha and George Sirko; her sisters-in-law, Joan Muhlbauer, Carol Bartelemucci and Ann Teed; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by Peter Miceli, Steve Teed, Wolfgang Hammer and Larry Bartelemucci.

Janice was a bright light to anyone that she encountered. She was our warrior and lived life to the fullest. She was always gracious and expected nothing in return. Her smile was contagious and she had the biggest heart. All of our lives will forever be blessed as she taught us to be kind, to persevere, to always look for the silver linings, and to love unconditionally.

There will be a celebration of Janice’s life at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Sparrow’s Nest of the Hudson Valley or Operation Smile Please visit Janice’s Book of Memories at

This physical world is less bright with the loss of dear Jan, a most amazing person of extraordinary compassion and boundless love. I was blessed by Jan's guidance and assistance during my first few years as a freshly minted attorney. Jan had a way of making you instantly comfortable. She lent her talents and time freely. I am grateful for having had her presence in my life and she will always be in my heart.

John, you and Jan were an amazing love story dating back to our John Jay days -- and that love only grew stronger in your life as husband and wife and as you raised your wonderful family. Jan was a kind and compassionate person -- so very genuine -- and you knew that better than anyone. You together shared an amazing and loving life and you and your children and grandchildren were her world. I recall something that has remained with me from our dear friend Nick's funeral mass -- the priest said -- "the price of having loved so deeply is the grief that comes with the loss." These words have helped me cope in dealing with my own loss and hope that it may help you in the days ahead. My heartfelt condolences. You, your children and the entire Miceli/Sirko families are in my prayers.

My husband, Tom, always held a special spot in his heart for Janice, his first legal secretary. I, too, have fond memories of Janice and her family, especially Michelle and Tim, who were students of mine over the years. They say that no one really passes away until every person we have touched has passed. Janice touched so many people throughout all her precious years, that she has certainly left an eternal legacy of love. Janice, like my husband, Tom, will truly be with us forever.
