Obituary for Daniel Robert "D-raph" Raphael

BEEKMAN – Heaven gained another angel, Daniel Robert Raphael (D-raph), 31, died on December 24, 2020.

Born in Mount Kisco on August 15, 1989, he was the son of Theresa “Terri” Blazek Raphael and the late Robert J. Raphael Jr. Dan attended Arlington High School where he was a member of the Arlington Hockey Club. He was an avid fan of the New York Rangers, Jets and Yankees. Dan always liked to dress nicely. He had a heart gold, was loved and will be missed by everyone.

“The chains that bind you are too light to feel, until they are too heavy to break off.”

Addiction is a disease, not a choice. It changes the brain structure and happens when substance use crosses the line between pleasure and compulsion. It is a physical, mental, and spiritual condition. It is the only prison where the key is on the inside.

Dan has struggled with a six year battle with addiction and lost his fight.

In addition to his father who died in 2004, Dan was also predeceased by his grandmother, Sylvia Raphael, who died in 1999; his grandfather, Andrew Blazek Jr., who died in 2009; and his uncle, Michael Patrick Leigh, who died in 2017.

Dan is survived by his mother, Terri Raphael, of Poughquag; his sister, Katrina Raphael of Poughquag; his grandmother, Beth Blazek of Boynton Beach, FL; his grandfather, Robert Raphael of Yorktown; his great-grandmother, Helen Innocenti of Singer Island, FL; his aunts and uncles, Beth Leigh, Diane and Joe Shubert, Andrew and Lila Blazek, Kevin and Amy Raphael, Bryan Raphael, Lee and Bob Ginabbi, Marilyn and Roger Rooney, Lisa Bailey; his cousins, Michael, Marissa and Christopher Leigh, Joseph and Thomas Shubert, Tyler Blazek, Zachary and Amanda Raphael, Steven and Christopher Erker; and Lydia Sweet.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 5, from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, January 6 at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice that works to help people overcome addiction. Please visit Dan’s Book of memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.
