Michael Guglielmo, 74, a resident of Wappingers Falls and previously of Hopewell Junction for 40 years, died on January 2, 2021 at White Plains Hospital from complications of Covid 19.

Born on June 16, 1946 in the Bronx, Michael was the son of John and Lucille (Mele) Guglielmo. On October 19, 1968 at St. John the Baptist Church in Yonkers, Michael married the love of his life, Maureen Natt who survives at home.

Michael was a Master Mechanic in the International Union Of Operating Engineers, Local #137 in Briarcliff Manor and co-owner of Pratt Building and Development. He received Safety Awards given during his employment in 137.

First and foremost, Michael loved his family, watching his grandchildren play sports, and was a car enthusiast who loved attending car shows and car auctions with his good friends. Family and friends were everything to “Big Mike”, also known growing up as “Big Gugs.” You could always recognize him by his Allen Edmond shoes. He enjoyed hard work, fixing things and spending time at the beach.

In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his children, Laura Santiago and her husband Ray of Pleasant Valley, Kara Romano and her husband Alex of Lagrangeville, Jon Guglielmo and his wife Jessica of Wallkill; his grandchildren, Raymond, Michael, Ava, Christopher, Madison, Jon Jr.; and his sister, Lynda DiPressi.
Death creates a wound no one can heal. Love creates memories no one can steal.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 12pm at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. We know many would like to gather, but for the safety of everyone the family requests all return to their cars directly after Mass and the cemetery.

Sometime during the summer once Covid is contained, his family will have a celebration of life where his family, friends, and neighbors can come together to honor and remember him.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Please visit Michael’s Book of Memories at for information on livestreaming.

Guglielmo Family,

I have such great memories of Mr. G. He was always happy to see me when I came over to play with Jon. There are a few random memories that stand out.
1) His yelling "Jon" whenever we were doing something wrong. I remember once we were throwing rocks at bottles in the houses being built (I think it was the Heads house being built but not sure). I could not hit a thing because my aim was so bad but Jon had the baseball arm and was breaking them all. Mr. G found out and pretended to be so mad. I was petrified at the time - it may be the only time I was scared of Mr. G. Now that I am a Dad I know he was just giving us a hard time and it is hilarious looking back at it!
2) He had such a great smile and laugh. He used to laugh at my Dad all the time. I remember when he heard that Dad ran our tractor into a tree. He could not stop laughing (and neither could I!).
3) The red pickup truck. Do you remember he got a cab for it. For some reason the red cab got a haze on the paint. Given his love of cars, this red haze drove him nuts. I came over one day and he had about 4 different cleaners or types of wax he was using to try and remove the haze. One of them worked and he had this huge grin. I'll never forget that smile.

Mrs. G, Jon, Kara, and Laura, your father was such a warm, kind person. My childhood is filled with memories of him for which I will be forever grateful. I am thinking about you all in this difficult time and hope to be with you for the Celebration of Life to relive all the greatness of Mr. G.

I am so sorry for your loss and hope that you are all surrounded by love in this tough time.

Dear Maureen,
I was sad to read about your beloved Michael's passing in the Poughkeepsie Journal. I met Mike once at your home on Sachs Court back when we worked together in building 300 with Harry and Ed and Walt. I remember your telling me how much he loved Italian food and how you couldn't be in the same room when he was cooking. I am so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace and may you and your family cherish your wonderful memories.

Mrs. G, Laura, Kara, Jon, and families,
My deepest sympathies. I have many memories of Mr. G. but the one that sticks out the most was the first year we all lived on Sachs court. We had a snow storm, and I believe school was cancelled. Mr. G drove his tractor up the driveway and tied an inner tube to the back and he pulled us up and down the street, then when we got to the cul-de-sac, and we flew around the circle on that tube. Mr. G was a wonderful man with a zest for life, an infectious laugh. He was a wonderful, caring neighbor and will be greatly missed.
