Obituary for Anthony Thomas Margiotta
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Their love took them away together and Heaven gained two angels. Anthony “Tony” Margiotta passed away calmly on January 5, 2021 and within 12 hours of losing her beloved husband of 52 years, Vivian “Vi” Margiotta peacefully joined him in Heaven. Vi turned 76 in September and Tony was 75 in October. Both bravely fought many medical conditions and although they have been strong and battling for years, they ultimately succumbed to complications due to COVID 19 at Vassar Brothers Hospital.
The two dated for 5 years before they were married on April 28, 1968 at St. Lucy’s Church in the Bronx, NY. They moved from the city to “the country” (Wappingers Falls, NY) in 1978 and lived in the same home for the rest of their lives.
Vi was an amazing wife, mother and Nana to her 9-year-old granddaughter Charlotte. She loved to cook and her husband loved to eat, so they were a perfect match! Her most favorite pastime was baseball…. Yankee Baseball…a diehard fan no matter what, she routed for the Bronx Bombers through thick and thin, a true fan! She was a natural nurturer to her daughter’s
Dina and Michelle and ultimately did the same for her husband. As Tony progressively battled with Parkinson’s disease she was his true angel – acting not only as his wife, but caregiver and nurse and anything else he needed…she gave him a wonderful life, never leaving his side.
Tony was a caring husband, father and Pop-Pop. Tony joined the Army National Guard in his twenties. He was a talented Saxophone player and a member of the bands “The Cavaliers” and “The Individuals”. He made many brides, grooms and party goers happy while rockin’ out on stage. He worked in the World Trade Center, Tower 2, from the early 1980’s until it’s end on 9/11/2001. He was the kind of Dad who made any event special. On Christmas morning he’d always make sure there was special gift for his daughter’s often found by way of a Scavenger Hunt. He retired in 2001 and later in life, Tony and Vi shared a love for golf, although Tony played quite a bit more and it became a great hobby for him. He was a quiet man, but showed his emotion through his unconditional love and kindness.
The two loved to dance and at every wedding could be caught cutting a rug to Glen Miller’s “In the Mood”. They were music lovers and as a tribute to them here are some lyrics from each of their favorite songs:
Tony would sing “I’m Just a Giglio" by Louis Prima:

And Vi loved Frank Sinatra especially when he sang “My Way”

Tony and Vi are survived by their daughters, Michelle Rockett and her husband, Matthew of Fishkill, NY and Dina Mercer and her husband, Robert of Tierra Verde, FL; their granddaughter, Charlotte Rockett; Tony’s brother, Victor Margiotta Sr. and his wife Lorraine, their sister-in-law’s, Geraldine Margiotta and Sylvia Maiure; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tony was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Madaline Margiotta, Sr. and his brother, Daniel Margiotta, Jr. Vivian was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Jenny Maiure, and her brother, Frank Maiure.
The family thanks all of the in-home support, aides, nurses, doctors and hospital staff who have helped them throughout the years and appreciate their compassion and sacrifice for others.
We will remember the way their smiles, warmth, energy, their love for life, family and friends, positively affected the lives they touched. The two enjoyed playing their favorite Yahtzee-like game “KISMET”, together daily. They rolled the dice many years ago, took a chance on love and had a great life together. There is no question, they were the most devoted couple and set a wonderful example of life and love…right until the very end.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, January 11 at 10 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill, NY followed by inurnment at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
