Obituary for Joseph Koestner

Joseph H. Koestner, 85, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1974, previously of Arvada CO and Long Island, died on January 5, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born on September 29, 1935 in Brooklyn, Joseph was the son of Henry and Florence (Kenning) Koestner. On January 24, 1959, Joseph married Margaret (Peggy) Ferrick who survives at home.

Joseph worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer for IBM in Boulder, CO and East Fishkill for 23 years until his retirement in 1993. He held many jobs through his career including the Navy Ship Yard, Thompson Industries, and other specialty engineering contracting firms.

Joseph was a parishioner of St. Columba Church and a member of the St. Mary's Council #4065, Knights of Columbus.

He loved golfing and playing in leagues, most recently at Dogwood Knolls GC. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping ,and hunting. Not only was he a handyman who could fix and install anything, he was also a creative cook, ballroom dancer, and a man who enjoyed singing oldies. Above all, family was everything to him.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Margaret Mancaruso of Fishkill, Joseph Koestner and his wife AnnMarie of Fishkill, Cynthia Alexander and her husband Shawn of Claverack; his grandchildren, Kristina Mancaruso and her fiancé Chris Viviano, Kelly Mancaruso Porter and her husband Mark, Shawn Alexander, Trevor Alexander, Shannon Koestner; his nieces, Michele Doyle and her husband Chuck and Denise Korsak and her husband Michael. In addition to his parents who both predeceased him in 1969, he was predeceased by his sister Geraldine Mularz in 2004 and her husband Frank Mularz in 2014.

Services will be private for the family at this time with interment at St. Denis Cemetery.
