Obituary

EAST FISHKILL - Margaret Josephine Wencak, 88, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of the Bronx, died on January 8, 2021.

Born on December 24, 1932 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (McCann) Bastone. On February 27,1953 she married the love of her life, Walter Wencak, who predeceased her on November 6, 2013. Many friends will remember Margaret from her time at Met Foods in the Bronx.

She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. She was kind and generous and always treated her friends and visitors like they were family, welcome in her home. She was known for her vast cooking and baking talents which were enjoyed by many.

Margaret fought a courageous battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer since being diagnosed in 2009. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all of her caregivers, and especially Hudson Valley Cancer Center, Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center, Fishkill Dialysis, and Hospice Foundation of Hudson Valley.

Survivors include her children, Rose Ann Bove and Walter J. Wencak and his wife Lynn; her grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Bove, Christopher and Barbara Bove, Jonathan Bove and Bonnie Ortiz, Mara Bove, and Jason Wencak; and her great-grandchildren, Emma, Andrew, Enzo and Ellie Bove. She was predeceased by her grandson, Brian Wencak.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Columba Church and interment was in St. Denis Cemetery. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held in the future.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of the Hudson Valley. Please visit Margaret’s Book of Memories at www.mchoulfuneralhome.com.

I’m very sad to hear about Margaret. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. I had the privilege to work with Margaret at Sam’s Club. Margaret was such a great person always with a smile , honest and never held anything back. Margaret and Walter always made me feel like I was family. They would always bring me cookies, food and polish sausage 😊They never forgot about me even when we parted ways when our assignment was done at Sam’s. If I learned anything from Margaret it was that family was first and never give up on our faith no matter what curve ball life might throw you.. I always admired her wisdom. She will be missed but never forgotten. Rest In Peace my friend. Love you always , vicky 🙏🏼🥰❤️

Aunt Margie was an extraordinary woman. I will always cherish memories of going to her and Uncle Walter's house. Her cooking, especially her fried chicken and super mini cheese cakes, was the best I have ever had. The feather bed that she would put on the floor for us to lay on as kids. The love she shared for everyone who ever stepped foot in her house was always heartfully felt. Aunt Margie was a strong woman, even when the road was not easy.

I am going to agree and DItto Lynn Wencak, my cousin on her remarks on Margie Wencak, my aunt.. My sons and I enjoyed visiting and staying on weekends to be with family. My Aunt Margie, no matter how many people, no matter how many dishes each one of us wanted - she would make - no joke - she could be making 5 meals and having them all ready at the same time - with no stress - calm as a cucumber - and all were delicious. Basically, she would run a diner in her home when we were there and she loved every moment ! Never complaining, always there to listen or to help without expecting anything in return. Selfless.

I will miss you Aunt Margie, but , I know you are now with all of our loved ones. Until we meet again, I cannot wait to see what you cook up for me! Love you, your niece, Theresa.

My heart is saddened by the loss of beautiful woman. Margaret was the most courageous person I have ever known. She will be remembered as a devoted Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grand Mother and friend. Oh and of course her delicious strawberry shortcake which she had great pleasure in baking for all. My sincere condolences with love and prayers go out to Roseann Bove and family. 'Ma' is at peace now, with her beloved husband at her side. Rest in peace, sweet angel.- Patty D'Angelo

My heart is filled with sadness for all members of our family especially Wally and Rose Ann.
My mother-in-law was the strongest, most practical and unselfish woman I have ever known. She fought her illness up until her last breath...with grace and courage.
I will miss her dearly...I love you Momma.
Your daughter-in-law,
Lynn
