Obituary for Margaret Josephine Wencak

EAST FISHKILL - Margaret Josephine Wencak, 88, an area resident since 1972 and formerly of the Bronx, died on January 8, 2021.

Born on December 24, 1932 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (McCann) Bastone. On February 27,1953 she married the love of her life, Walter Wencak, who predeceased her on November 6, 2013. Many friends will remember Margaret from her time at Met Foods in the Bronx.

She was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and ceramics. She was kind and generous and always treated her friends and visitors like they were family, welcome in her home. She was known for her vast cooking and baking talents which were enjoyed by many.

Margaret fought a courageous battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer since being diagnosed in 2009. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all of her caregivers, and especially Hudson Valley Cancer Center, Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center, Fishkill Dialysis, and Hospice Foundation of Hudson Valley.

Survivors include her children, Rose Ann Bove and Walter J. Wencak and his wife Lynn; her grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Bove, Christopher and Barbara Bove, Jonathan Bove and Bonnie Ortiz, Mara Bove, and Jason Wencak; and her great-grandchildren, Emma, Andrew, Enzo and Ellie Bove. She was predeceased by her grandson, Brian Wencak.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Columba Church and interment was in St. Denis Cemetery. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held in the future.
