Obituary for Raymond "Buz" Van Vlack

Raymond Van Vlack, Jr., a lifelong local area resident, died on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. He was 82.
Raymond was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on February 13, 1938 to the late Raymond and Helen (Hohlowski) Van Vlack. He was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. In 1958, Van Vlack’s Cleaners was founded by his father and mother and himself. His wife, Mary also helped run the business. His son, Raymond III later became a partner. He and his family ran Van Vlack’s Cleaners which was a successful business with several locations throughout the local area. He retired in 2016.
Raymond enjoyed using his woodworking skills to craft bird houses using recycled barnwood. His passion became a small business called “Antiques for the Birds”.
On November 19, 1955, Raymond married the love of his life, Mary Madonia, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Poughkeepsie. Mary survives at home in Highland.
Additional survivors include his son, Raymond Van Vlack, III & his wife Carol of Wappingers Falls; his daughter, Wendy Van Vlack & her wife Rhonda of Hopewell Junction; his grandsons, Jason and Zachary Van Vlack; his great granddaughters, Aaliyah and Gianna; his sister, Betty Rae Poppo; and many other family members & close friends.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 25, 2021 from 4pm - 6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street Fishkill. A prayer service will be conducted at 6pm immediately following the visitation. PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with NYS guidelines related to COVID-19, face masks and social distancing are required and capacity may be limited.
Entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery will be private.
