Obituary for Erasmo J. Saponaro

Erasmo J. Saponaro, 81, a resident of Poughquag for 18 years and previously of Milford, CT and Yonkers, died on January 21, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born on March 26, 1939 in the Bronx, Erasmo was the son of Ralph and Concetta (Morano) Saponaro. On June 3, 1962 at St. Mary’s in Yonkers, Erasmo married the love of his life, Colomba “Chickie” Pantaleo who survives at home.

Erasmo proudly served our country in the National Guard in New York from 1956-1962 and was a member of UFCW Local 174. He enjoyed singing, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was the secretary and Sergeant of Arms for Dunwoodie Youth Association and a parishioner of St. Denis Church.

In addition to his wife, Erasmo is survived by his children, Constance Winant and her husband Kevin of Fishkill, Ralph E. Saponaro and his wife Stephany of Garnerville, Kathryn Sabatino and her husband Dominic of Poughquag, Karen Salatino of Hopewell Junction; his 12 grandchildren; his great granddaughter, Riley Rose Winant; and his sister, Maryann Mandile of White Plains. In addition to his parents, Erasmo was predeceased by his sister, Constance Cancro.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 10am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment at St. Denis Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
