Helen M. Groth, 103, a resident of Wappingers Falls, died on April 16, 2021 at home.

Born on January 21, 1918 in Yonkers, Helen was the daughter of John and Mary (Hample) Yurus.

Helen was quite a “wise-guy” who was loving and fun with a 165 bowling average at the age of 85. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and jumbles. Everyone will remember her as being the greatest babysitter ever!

Helen is survived by her children, Pamela Reid and her husband Ed of Wappingers Falls and Albert Groth and his wife Jodi of Meadview, AZ; her grandchildren, Dawn Zitz, Peter Zitz, Christina Crawford, and Alan Groth; her great-grandchildren, Julien Zitz, Olivia Zitz, Mary Garnet Crawford, and John Crawford; her siblings, John Yurus, Bill Yurus, Ruth Yurus; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her siblings, Edward, George and Edna.

Private funeral services will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. Please visit Helen’s Book of Memories at

Grammy, You welcomed me into the family at a crazy time in my young life and showed how to see the world with a perpetual sense of positivity and light. You had lived through so much that would have broken other people, but despite it all, you never lost your sense of fun. If a person's life is measured by the amount of love that they have brought to others and the lives they have touched then you were a queen indeed. Bless you and all of us that you have left behind. We are all better people for having just a moment in time with you.

What a sad, sad thought that this world is now without one of its star performers! Her memory will live on as one of the most kindest, funniest people I know with a contagious laugh and a sense of humor to boot. I'm sure the Good Lord is laughing with her right now! Peace and love to the family. -Carol White-

Aunt Helen
It has been quite the blessed experience, having the honor of knowing you, even for the short time that I did. As I said, at your brother Eddie's funeral, I feel that I have been shortchanged to have only been part of the Yurus family for these past 6+ years, but on the other hand, I feel as if I have known you all for a lifetime. You have always made me feel like royalty! I guess I became royalty when I became part of the Yurus family. I've heard so many joyous stories of the love that you all have for one another and it will continue here and in heaven because of family members such as yourself. As Ed, (Pop to me), referred to you, you truly were the QUEEN of the Yurus family. We love you and please give Pop a "kiss and a smooch" for us! We will miss you for now but will meet again in heaven!

Aunt Helen,
Who can I walk down memory lane with who is as Sharp, Knowledgeable, Enjoyable, with the best sense of humor!!
I can never forget this summer and the great time we had with you and my Dad.
Who would think a day with a 98 year old and 102 year old could be so much fun and I could gain so much knowledge.........
I know my Dad is with the Queen now as he so lovingly referred to you.
My children and grandchildren loved and admired you they were always amazed at HOW MUCH
FUN AND ENERGY Aunt Helen had.
You will be so missed but my heart is gladdened by my dad having you with him.
I have over 60 years of great love filled memories xxoo
