WAPPINGERS FALLS – Catherine Mary Rohling, 81, an area resident for 61 years and formerly of Amsterdam, NY, died peacefully at her home on April 25, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Born on April 22, 1940 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of John Angus and Sophie Charlotte (Simon) McPherson.
Catherine had been employed for over 20 years as an Optometrist Assistant and Office Manager for various Optometrists in Poughkeepsie. In retirement, Catherine was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was the Chaplain for the Wappingers Elks Club for many years and a life member of the New Hamburg Yacht Club. She especially enjoyed donating her time assisting local seniors and taking them to events such as New York Broadway shows, casinos, and cruises. She enjoyed serving at the election polling sites for both local and national elections. She was also formerly a member of the Red Hat Society, but her life's passion was spending time talking with her husband, kids, grandkids, and friends.
Almost 61 years ago this Saturday, Catherine married Jerald R. Rohling, also from Amsterdam, who survives at home. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Linda Rohling of Wappingers Falls, Paul and Cathy Rohling of Hopewell Junction, Darlene and Jon Anderson of Hopewell Junction, Carl and Annie Rohling of Glen Ridge, NJ; her grandchildren, Peter, Sophia, Thomas, Ashley, Jake, Henry, Hema and Heston; her brother, Gary McPherson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and James McPherson.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., Hopewell Junction.
