Obituary for Sarah Sullivan (Cavanaugh)

FISHKILL – Sarah V. (Cavanaugh) Sullivan, 99, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 27, 2021.

Born in Cumberland, RI, on November 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hepburn) Cavanaugh. On April 14, 1953, she married Lawrence J. Sullivan who predeceased her in 1992.

She is survived by her children, Anne Camporeale, Joan Sullivan, and Larry Sullivan; her daughter-in-law, Roni Sullivan; her two grandchildren who she loved dearly, Jason Biszick and Dana Camporeale; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Sarah was also predeceased by her son, Edward Sullivan; her son-in-law, Robert Camporeale; and her sisters. When Sarah and her sisters, Mary and Anne, were together, they were known as the Golden Girls, and they were truly Golden.

Sarah had Alzheimer’s Disease and was cared for by some beautiful angels, mostly Valda Cornish and Velceta Newman, who became like family to us and our Sarah. We will cherish them forever for the care they gave our mother. There were several other aides, too many to mention by name, and we thank you so much for taking care of our mother with much love.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill followed by burial at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
