Marie Ferraiola was called home on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, after a challenging illness.
Marie instantly made the Earth a brighter place on November 16, 1935. Everyone who knew her loved her. She was the epitome of generosity and kindness.
Her devotion to her husband of 61 years was extraordinary. Whether holding a ladder while he cleaned gutters or frying up his favorite shrimp dinner, she was his faithful supporter. They shared a wonderful chemistry together.
Marie had an unparalleled appreciation for her family and loved spending quality time with them. She found much joy in life's simple delights — cooking a meal, working on a craft, or hosting prayer meetings with friends. She was coined "The Pizzelle Lady.” Many an hour was spent whipping up batches of these Italian cookies and personally delivering them to grateful recipients. A dinner at Marie’s home wasn't just a meal, but an opportunity to break bread, chat, and share love— the scrumptious cuisine was merely a bonus.
There were a few essentials Marie required in her life. One was love and the other was fun. She placed a great emphasis on fun. She cherished family vacations especially trips to Atlantic City. Being a kid at heart, she was able to inject magic into the simplest of days as she placed immeasurable value on laughter. She delighted in playing with her children and eventually grandchildren, fostering their imaginations. A master prankster, April Fool’s Day and Halloween were favorite holidays. Everyone was on high alert knowing she’d have a trick or two up her sleeve.
Marie was always eager to make friends out of strangers. If you were blessed to be her friend, you’d soon discover what a loyal confidante she was. She’d go to great lengths to help you.
Her deep spirituality was vital to her values. She found great comfort in praying to Jesus and the Blessed Mother. Marie attended mass regularly and believed in the power of prayer. She showed reverence toward God by treating everyone with kindness and respect. Her faith was unwavering. She was wise enough to know that a heartfelt gesture or a genuine smile could transform someone's day. Marie was a rare treasure and will live on in her family’s hearts forever.
Her family will never forget the aides who helped care for her. They were a precious blessing and considered family. The Hospice team was also a tremendous support and comfort.
Marie is survived by her children, Angela, Laura, and Thomas, son-in-law Dan, daughter-in-law Sandy, four grandchildren Joanna, Elaina, Jake, and Samantha, a brother, Ralph and his wife JoAnn, her best friend and sister-in-law Bea, and six nieces and nephews (and their spouses) who were dear to her. Her beloved husband, Tom, and brother-in-law, Louis, predeceased her.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 3-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Jct., NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 10 am at Saint Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville, NY followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
