Obituary for Michael Egan

Michael Eugene Egan, a Long Island resident since 2020, passed away unexpectedly at home in Valley Stream on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. He was 44.
He had previously resided in Massapequa, Peekskill, Schenectady, and Carmel.
Son of the late Eugene and Theresa (Garcia) Egan, he was born in the Bronx on September 8, 1977.
Mike was an avid reader and brilliant writer. He loved listening to a wide variety of music genres and also enjoyed playing guitar and writing lyrics. A talented artist and entrepreneur, his work could be found as merchandise on Amazon. Mike was also an outdoorsman who loved nature and took interest in mycology. He was a perpetual student who loved learning about anything & everything.
He excelled as a Dean’s List scholar and took academic honors classes at Bard College, New York University, and Nassau Community College. In 2020, he was issued a license by the NYS Office of Addiction Services & Support as a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate. Prior to resuming his college studies, Mike worked full-time at Thrive Recovery Center in Hauppauge as a Recovery Coach.
He was a selfless person who was always willing to help others. He accepted everyone for who they were without judgment. Anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting Michael would call him a friend. He was a very good and kind man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mike cherished his children, Anthony and Sophia Loren, who survive in Saugerties.
Additional survivors include his aunts and uncles, Catherine Egan Conforti of Wallkill, Patrick Egan of Jericho, Roberta Garcia of St. Augustine, FL, Dennis & Katherine Egan of St. Augustine, FL, Nick & Claire Raio of Boca Raton, FL, and Suzanne Garcia & Ronald Cohen of Burnsville, MN; his cousins, whom he adored greatly, Kelly Egan Berry Deverter & her husband John of Franklin, TN, Laura Conforti Quaranto & her husband Robert of Hopewell Junction, John Egan of Austin, TX, Michele Raio Williams & her husband Mark of St. Augustine, FL, and Nicholas Raio of St. Augustine, FL; as well as several other first and second cousins across the United States; and more than 75 first cousins once-removed and second cousins who reside in Ireland.
He was predeceased by his father Eugene in 1989 and his mother Theresa in 2013, as well as his grandparents.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A memorial service will be conducted at 3:15 p.m.
