After a hard-fought battle, John Reid Moy, 72, passed away on May 19, 2022 in Ft. Myers, FL, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born at Vassar Brothers Hospital on Easter Sunday, April 9, 1950 to Reid John and Helen Agnes (Hoffman) Moy. His younger sister Nancy Marchetti (Frank), and younger brother Paul completed his family. His father, mother, and brother predeceased him.
John lived his entire life in Fishkill except for the years he attended SUNY Brockport where he made a close-knit group of friends who remain a loved and important part of his life. It was at Brockport where he also met his adoring wife Marsha Durling Moy, whom he married on August 9, 1975 at St. Augustine Church, New City, NY. They have cherished their life filled with much love and laughter with many friends and family. Their two daughters, Meagan of Manlius, NY, and Julie of Brooklyn, NY gave him such joy and he could always be found supporting and encouraging all of their activities and adventures.
He also loved and is survived by his nephew Daniel Moy (wife Sara and son Cooper), niece Kate Marchetti, many cousins, and Julie’s fiancé Michelle Cleland.
His in-laws Lorna and Harold McGeorge, Nancy Williams, and Jill and Christopher Meagher, as well as his many nieces, nephews, their spouses and children will share many memories including summer vacations at Stone Harbor, NJ, and fun-filled Thanksgiving weekends in Fishkill.
With his family and friends, he spent annual spring breaks biking, kayaking, exploring, and enjoying the natural beauty on Sanibel Island; he skied Whiteface and many other east coast mountains during the winters; and during the fall he attended many soccer, field hockey, and football games. His years of playing on local softball teams filled many summer days. In between games, he could often be found at All Sport or walking the local rail trails. John was passionate about sports whether playing, watching, coaching, refereeing, reading, or following the statistics of his favorite teams.
Starting as a college summer employee, John was fortunate to spend his entire career of more than 40 happy, fulfilling years working for the Fresh Air Fund at Sharpe Reservation, Fishkill, NY. Upon his graduation and full-time employment, he developed the outdoor education program, and initiated and oversaw countless other projects before eventually becoming the director of the facility by the time he retired in 2015.
Happily retired, John and Marsha seized the opportunity to travel. Highlights of their trips include several national parks, and visits with family and friends across the country, from the Outer Banks, NC to the West Coast.
Our family gratefully thanks the compassionate doctors and their support staffs who helped him extend an active quality of life for the past 30 years: Dr. Joseph Garvey, and Columbia Doctors cardiologists Dr. Robert Belkin, Dr. Carmine Sorbera, Dr. Warren Rosenblum, and Dr. David Oh, as well as the staff at Lee Health Park, Ft. Myers, FL.
His was a life well-loved and well lived and we will celebrate this life on Thursday, May 26 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill from 4-7pm.
