Obituary for Gail E. Grove

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Gail E. Grove, 78, an area resident since 1969, died on July 21, 2022, at Westchester Medical Center surrounded by her family. She previously lived in Yorktown and Pleasantville.

Born on March 1, 1944, in New York City, Gail was the daughter of the late Gerhard and Elizabeth (Bendele) Henning. Her career spanned over several decades with employers including the Cornell Cooperative Ext., IBM, and advertising companies in Manhattan.

Gail was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Poughkeepsie. She was active in the Cub Scouts acting as Den Leader, Den Leader Coach and Cub Scouts Roundtable Commissioner. More than anything, she enjoyed reading and doing crafts with her grandchildren, especially making birthday photo books.

On October 22, 1966, in Yorktown, Gail married William J. Grove, Sr. who survives at home. She is also survived by her children, William J. "Billy" Grove, Jr., Chris Grove, Sandy Nikles and her husband David, and Scott Grove and his fiancé Lisa; her grandchildren, Allison, Sarah, Bryan, Justin, Aiden, Skylar, and Hailey; many great-grandchildren; her siblings and their spouses, Gerhard “Jerry” and Linda Henning, Joyce and David Anderson, Richard Henning, Linda Lam, and David and Doreen Henning; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her brothers Gerhard, Paul and Howard Henning; and her niece, Barbara Henning.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 – 7 pm, with a funeral service at 6:30 pm, at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Burial will be Wednesday at 11 am at Hopewell Cemetery.
