Obituary for Michael Francis Ambron

Michael F. Ambron, a Fishkill resident since 1989 and formerly of the Bronx, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie by heart failure. He was 64.

Son of the late Clayton and Annemarie (Powers) Ambron, he was born on May 19, 1958, and grew up in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers, received his bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College in the Bronx, and later earned his master’s degree from Iona College in New Rochelle.
For nearly 25 years, Michael worked for IBM at the company’s facilities in East Fishkill, NY and Southbury, CT, where he served as Director of Programming.

Following his career with IBM, he began teaching at John Jay Senior High School in Hopewell Junction in 2006 and was preparing to return to school this fall. He was a well-loved and respected teacher who became an active member of the school community, serving as Senior Class Advisor and volunteering to chaperone countless events every year. He also spent many years as a professor of Computer Science at Dutchess Community College and formerly at Westchester Community College. Michael will be remembered by his students as an unparalleled mentor and inspiring educator.

He also coached for several youth organizations including the Wappinger United Soccer Club and St. Mary CYO Basketball. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. Every year during the holiday season, Michael took time to help with those in need by volunteering at locations such as Castle Point V.A. Medical Center or Astor Services for Children.

He cherished spending time with his family and always loved attending his children’s sporting events or other extracurricular activities. He also enjoyed family vacations, especially trips to the ocean where he would swim for hours on end.

Michael was widely respected by all who knew him for his ability to stand firm with his core beliefs and values.

On November 5, 1983, he married Susan J. Brady at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in the Bronx. Susan survives at home in Fishkill.

Michael is also survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Blumetti & her husband Jared of Jersey City, NJ; his son, Patrick Ambron & his wife Kyle of Norwalk, CT; his daughter, Laura Geswell & her husband Ryan of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Charlotte Jane and Jackson Brady Blumetti; his sister, Kathleen Breckwoldt; his brother, Thomas Ambron; his siblings-in-law, Brian & Kathleen Brady, Noreen & Frank Conlon, and John & Patricia Brady; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his family, he is also survived by a host of close friends, colleagues, students, and skells.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Catherine Brady, in 2019.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 29 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 30 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
