Obituary for Donna Marie DiCosta (Prusi)

PLEASANT VALLEY – Donna Marie DiCosta, 57, died peacefully on August 7, 2022 at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City after complications from a lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis.

Donna was born on Staten Island on December 20, 1964 and had been employed as a nurse at Staten Island Hospital for many years before moving to Dutchess County in 1989 where she continued to work privately as a nurse.

Donna was one of the founding members of the Staten Island Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was a lifelong advocate of CFF, volunteering at fashion shows, dances, walks, stair climbs, and had been their poster child. She also went to Spain as part of Transplant Olympics and was involved with Donate Life America.

She is survived by her children, Richard DiCosta of Beacon and Jessica DiCosta of Brooklyn; her parents, Alexander and Iola (Zambanini) Prusi; her brother, Mark Prusi and his wife Lisa; her nephews, Alex and Nick; her former husband and friend, Richard DiCosta and his family; and many cousins and friends. Donna was looking forward to meeting her first great-niece, Payton, due this month.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction.
